Petra Nemcova, Quincy Jones, The Edge of U2, Jennifer Hudson, Russell Simmons, Karolina Kurkova,  a model crazed monkey and other celebrity guests kicked off the holiday season at Petra’s Happy Hearts Fund (HHF) at the annual benefit titled “Happy Hearts Fund Land of Dreams: Thailand” on Saturday, Nov 20th at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. This meaningful, fun and educational event is part of a series that will travel to different countries where Happy Hearts Fund rebuilds happy, self -sustaining schools after natural disasters. This year we will take 500 guests on a journey to Asia, where they will experience the magic of Thailand without ever leaving New York through simulated sights, authentic cuisine and traditional Thailand entertainment.

This year, Happy Hearts Fund honors champions of business and entertainment who have shown exemplary generosity even through the toughest of economic times. This year’s “Heart of Gold ” confirmed honorees are:

Victoria’s Secret chose her to be a part of 2000’s fashion show webcast, though she was only 16 at the time. Yves Saint Laurent signed Kurková to contracts, while print campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, John Galliano, Chanel, Christian Dior, Hugo Boss, Versace, H&M, and others helped expose her even more. In the 2002 Victoria’s Secret fashion show, she wore the multi-million dollar fantasy bra, worth almost $10 million and designed by Hearts on Fire. Other runway credits of hers include Alberta Ferretti, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, and Vera Wang.

Kurková was named “Model of the Year” at the 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, in part for her work ethic, having worked twenty-three weeks straight.

Kurková has appeared in almost twenty Vogue magazine covers internationally, including the French, Italian, UK, German, Russian, Greek, and Korean editions, and has also appeared in international editions of Elle, Vanity Fair, and The Face. She has worked with noted fashion photographers like Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, and Mario Testino.

After being contracted as a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2005, she was featured in the 2006 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, showcasing the $6.5 million fantasy bra decked with almost 2000 diamonds weighing 800 carats (160 g) and a centerpiece diamond brooch weighing 10 carats (2.0 g). As an Angel, she received a star on the Hollywood “Walk of Fame” prior to the 2007 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, appeared on the February 2008 cover of Esquire, re-creating the classic 1966 Angie Dickinson cover for the magazine’s 75th anniversary.

Coyotes Overdosing in Central Park & Robin Williams

NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts honored actor Billy Crystal (BFA ’70) with the Steuben Big Apple award at its annual “The Face of Tisch” gala.  Chance Spiessbach of Chance TV discussed coyotes overdosing in central park on the red carpet with Robin Williams the star of Good Morning Vietnam, Disney’s Alladin and Good Will Hunting for which he received the Oscar.  He has also won two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammy Awards.

Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg, long-time friends of Crystal, shared their love for their lifetime friend. “I want to say thank you so much to Billy Crystal; he’s always been my friend,” Robin said. “No, he isn’t just a friend, he’s my conscience. He’s always the one telling me not to do the last two jokes.” ”There is this one thing you have to know about Billy,” Whoopi said. “You see, he’s very easygoing, he laughs and jokes. But you don’t want to piss him off. He turns into the Hulk.”

Mr Crystal, the eight-time Academy Award host and star of classic films such as “When Harry Met Sally” and “City Slickers”  had some confessions “I was a lousy student”. “I have so many overdue library books. If you knew, you wouldn’t be giving me this award.” “This has been an extraordinary evening,” he said. “I had no idea what to expect — most moving and wonderful night.” “NYU President John Sexton told WSN he is “an enormous fan of Billy.””He is a great star in my and NYU’s world,” Sexton said. “It’s great to have him here. He is one of Tisch’s crown jewels.”

Celebrity guests  included musician Paul Schaffer and Tony Bennett and actors Marcia Gay Harden and Law and Order’s Jesse L. Martin.  James Franco star of 127 Hours was a no show.
